MPLS network extended

From now on, you can use Eurofiber services based on its extended backbone network. In fact, in 2016, Eurofiber made a major investment by expanding the MPLS network. MPLS stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching and is the backbone for services such as Ethernet, Internet, VPN and Secure Cloud Connect.

Since the beginning of this year we have 17 connection points, spread across Belgium and Luxembourg. This compares with just 4 points at the beginning of 2016. The MPLS network is part of our Eurofiber Benelux network, with a total of 86 nodes.

Installing this MPLS network enables us to guarantee our customers more uptime and greater reliability.

For example, ‘dual-homed’ customer connections enable us to link the central customer location (such as their headquarters) of their VPN network via separate fiber optic routes to two different MPLS connection points.

By increasing the density of our MPLS network, the latency between the various customer locations on the VPN network can be optimised. What happens, in fact, is that the MPLS switching takes place closer to the customer location.

Users of business-critical applications, such as VoIP, video, private and public cloud services, benefit from even better response time. Additional customer locations can also be implemented simply and more quickly.
